This is the perfect example or how our tastes can change! I originally bought this #bluevinyl #TheBelleStars #12inch in the early 90s. At the time I only really knew their songs “Sign of the Times,” “The Clapping Song” and “Iko Iko.” I assumed their repertoire would all be similarly produced, synthy #newwave bops. I was SO unprepared for this song, which was their second single release, to be a #Ska -heavy track with elements of early rap, that I immediately decided I HATED it and traded the record for store credit at Rebel Rebel. Years go by and I collect more records by @thebellestars and learn more about how they were formed by members of the Ska band The Bodysnatchers, and I developed an appreciation for their sound – full of peppy horns and sung/spoken verses full of attitude – and I already like and collect Madness, The Specials, The English Beat and The Selecter. I ended up collecting ALL their other singles EXCEPT for this one. While shopping at @GenerationRecords the other day I found excellent copies of the UK blue 12” and the US black vinyl 12” in a different color sleeve and with unique sets of b-sides and FINALLY got them because as I get older my musical tastes have matured… and I am also an insane completest. #80smusic #eighties #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #vinylgram #vinyladdict #recordcollector #recordcollection #girlgroups
