« Shu Tong’s Last Haircut 洛水迢迢 » // brand short film for Midea.
In this thousand-year-old village, women keep the tradition of only having a haircut when they're turning eighteen, before leaving the village to venturing into the world. For Shu Tong and her grandma, even discussing the ceremony brings tears, grandma would say "But we've spent so much time together since you were so little" The last words are already sobbing.
The shoot was my last project before moving to France. Almost three months in I’m still grasping how big of this move and all I’ve left behind, that perhaps will never be able to go back to. Nothing is permanent. However it’s the inevitable coming of separation making the time we spent together more preciously beautiful. And as Shu Tong’s grandma said,
“No matter where the river takes you, remember where you’re from, and who you are”
Thank you my dear director
