Less than a year ago I started working with Filipino Egyptian American graphic novelist/journalist/writer @malakagharib (she’s crazy talented!) on a film about our shared experiences growing up half Filipino 🇵🇭

Set in the early 2000’s, the film is about a 16 year old girl navigating what it means to be half Filipino in a predominantly Asian community.

Malaka and I are co-writing the screenplay and the project has totally sucked me in! Working together has shown me what true collaboration can really look like. Spitballing, sharing ideas and truly elevating one another creatively feels incredibly fulfilling.

So, here’s to new beginnings, being 16 all over again (no thanks, ha!) and laughing hysterically along the way 🤣

Thanks MG for the drawing ❤️
