DJ N ², the producer of the oh-so-popular “KYUNDESU” party that transcends genres and genders, defines what makes a “good party.”

※KYUN (きゅん): a slang for the excitement you get when you see something cutesy

As an organizer, I want partygoers to feel empowered to express themselves through fashion. Feeling confident about what you’re wearing can really set your whole mood for a party. Fashion is such a powerful form of communication; due to its visual nature, it can connect people beyond language barriers. I mean, doesn’t your heart dance a little (or go “kyun”) when someone compliments your heels?

Whenever I go to a party, I always make sure to bring “KYUNDESU” stickers. Lately, I’ve been getting more positive reactions from people who tell me they’d been eyeing the stickers, which has been exciting. These real life interactions refuel my motivation and keep me going.

My vision is for parties to be places where people can let loose and be authentic. I think that one of the reasons why Japan unfortunately has such a high suicide rate is due to people suppressing themselves and feeling trapped. That’s why I want to continue providing people a healthy outlet for self-expression through my events. At the end of the day, I just want more people to experience how liberating it feels to be true to yourself.
