Dirty Dancing.
A film that inspired thousands of dancers no doubt, myself included.
I remember going to ‘video visions’ to hire it out and having to turn left to the VHS aisle (to turn right was for beta max). It was on a weeks hire and had to be rewound on return. I pretty much wore it out, I was was totally obsessed.
This week we had ‘Time Of My Life’ in a corporate gig and in rehearsals I was reminded of how iconic it was and how much it’s a part of dance history for so many. The audience went absolutely mad for it. It’s totally a generational film but I was shocked that there were dancers who didn’t know it (how? HOW?!) so had to watch it again and get
@petercorry_ to watch it. Especially when I found out that he’d never seen it either (HOW!!!).
It’s so much less cheesy than people make it out to be. Yes it’s a bit dated but it already was when it came out so in many ways it’s a bit of a time capsule.
Was always in the top ten and I’m relieved that’s it’s still up there because there’s always a bit of a risk in watching an old favourite.

I still love it.
Still so iconic.
Still gives me all the feels.
Still impresses me and love that it shows the power of movement in unlocking who you can be.
