Oscar Murillo
Colombian-born, London-based artist, delves into migration, labor, globalization, and identity through a diverse practice encompassing painting, installation, video, and performance. His work is deeply personal, drawing on his own migrant experience, and often incorporates raw materials, layered canvases, and found objects to evoke industrial labor and collective memory. By blending local and global elements, Murillo’s art critically examines socio-political issues such as economic inequality and displacement.
A notable project, Frequencies (2019), engaged schoolchildren from around the world in drawing on canvases, symbolizing cross-cultural human connection. His current exhibition, A Balancing Act Between Collapse and Spirit at David Zwirner London, explores the tension between fragility and resilience in the face of global crises. Through these works, Murillo continues to reflect on the complexities of contemporary life and the forces that shape individual and collective identities.
