I spent some time this year shooting photos outside rallies around New York. Although I’m not shy about sharing my own political views, I don’t go to these to engage in fights or the back and forth rhetoric, I try to see and capture people for who they are.
Usually political rallies bring protestors - and at some point two sides form, yelling at eachother from behind police lines and barricades. I understand the passion - I feel it too when there’s so much on the line. But what constantly popped into my mind everytime this happened was how these wealthy politicians and conmen can stoke these divisions through their lies while sitting in their high towers, unaffected by it all. Our enemies aren’t our neighbors, or immigrants, or those who vote different than us. I think the vast majority of the country doesn’t care to engage in this vitriol, and I fear for our future if the temperature isn’t toned down.
So whatever happens tonight, I hope the results are accepted, and we can move beyond these divisions and work together towards a brighter future. We’re all in this together, whether we like it or not. 🇺🇸
