Engraving artist, Wade Wilson, makes copies of his masterfully-detailed engraved plates and objects using Smooth-Sil™ 945 silicone and Smooth-Cast™ 321 resin. Hear what he has to say about his process: "I make resin castings of my work because it is the only way to sell an engraving job more than once. Everything I do is cut by hand, and so there is only one original. In the days before the internet, engravers traded castings like this because it was the only way to really see what other engravers were doing. 2D photos do not tell the whole story, only the 3D castings show every cut and every mark... I use Smooth-Sil 945, because it captures all of the detail perfectly and has a relatively short cure time. The castings are made with Smooth-Cast 321 because it cures fast and the amount of shrinkage is negligible." - @wade_oliver_wilson 💬 #smoothon #smoothcast #engraving #metalengraving
