I first saw Butoh depicted in incredible books by Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama and William Klein. I was instantly hooked. But no one seems to shoot it in colour, so I thought I’d give it a go.
‘Butoh, a Japanese dance-theatre art form characterised by slow and expressive dance moves, was born of the creative and existential void left by World War II. Diving into the depths of the individual, the practice unearths buried emotions and translates them into movement. It honours the full range of the human experience, including absurdity, beauty, and suffering. ;’
