Behind the lens with @gettyimages Photographer @mario_tama: “After years of severe drought here in California, we confronted climate whiplash in an onslaught of atmospheric river storms, and I learned that one was predicted to deliver snowfall into Yosemite Valley. I drove up from LA the evening before the storm hit and headed toward the park before dawn. I made my way through heavy higher elevation snowfall down to the Tunnel View overlook, which Ansel Adams (one of my heroes) made famous. I wasn’t the first photographer there and the scene was epic – freshly fallen snow dusting the trees with mist and fog morphing and drifting through the valley. I shot from a number of clear vantage points which were not already occupied by other photographers. Snowfall was very light at this point in the soft morning light. The primary issue was maintaining patience for the full valley view to coalesce amid the temptation to bail and head down into the valley itself. It all feels like a dream now, waiting and watching as the ephemeral fog and clouds danced and billowed, expanded and contracted, before Bridal Veil Fall, then El Capitan, then Half Dome, emerged through the tapestry of the clearing storm.”
