What happens when function transforms into art? Can utility actually be redefined as art?
HELIOT EMIL and The Webster invite you to explore the answer with an installation at their pop-up during Art Basel in Miami.
The centerpiece of the space is a sculptural couch, created in collaboration with NM3. Its cushions—crafted from 37 deployed Alpinestars airbags, customized to fit in the suits of motogp riders as you will see each airbag has a handwritten name for the motogp rider the airbag fits the suit with. The airbags were once objects of function defined by speed and protection, and are now reimagined as symbols of rest, comfort and reflection, expanding on a recurring theme in HELIOT EMIL’s design narrative.
Surrounding it, minimalist daybeds, monolithic tables made in collaboration with NM3, and delicate balanced decor objects. The arrangements offer a juxtaposition of strength and softness, creating an environment that invites reflection.
The reimagined venue is an extension of HELIOT EMIL’s philosophy of design as a process of evolution and reinvention. It is a tangible reflection of the brand’s dedication to creating objects and spaces that provoke thought through the exploration of new forms of material and narrative.
This process began seasons ago in collaboration with Alpinestars through a series of capsule collections, the latest of which will be presented at the pop-up. This collection will include fifteen uniquely crafted 1-of-1 moto jackets, each with its own distinctive style, which have been introduced during NYFW.
Together, the pieces in this installation invite viewers to reconsider the boundaries between art and purpose.
