Feature: Making and Remaking BALLET

End-of-the-year means a long-form feature on the art of book making at Little Steidl. This year Nina Holland takes you behind the curtain into the grueling process of remaking Alexey Brodovitch’s BALLET.
Pictured: Nina demonstrates the process of rolling and aerating small batches of press sheets to keep them flexible and prevent adhesion – a necessity given the dangerously high ink levels in this bespoke printing process. This was done approximately 40-45 times for every sheet, and it was then repeated in the bindery before the sheets could be folded.
There is a great hunger among readers to better understand the sensory thrill that is ignited by an exquisitely printed book. Here’s your chance to learn more than you ever thought possible!
And if you have any questions you’d like Nina to answer, send them over. You have about 2 weeks.
