Ever thought a £4.99 WHSmith Lever Arch File would fetch £20,000? Well, yesterday one sorta did. As part of yesterday’s Passion for Fashion auction at
@kerrytaylorauctions, the auction house sold a collection of original Lee Alexander McQueen sketches, prints and images from his time at Saint Martins and Givenchy.
Expected to sell for between £20,000 to £30,000, the contents of the folder features xeroxed drawings, polaroids, fabric samples, fitting images, scans, as well as 54 loose pencil and biro sketches, assumed to be made during his time while studying at Saint Martins.
The largest part of the folder’s content is an SS01 couture studio book from Lee’s final show at Givenchy, which includes almost 50 designs, accompanied by swatches, references and fabric samples from zebra print textiles, a leather lace sail jacket, beadwork scans and a diamond inset wedding dress.
What price would you put on the folder?
