As @jgalliano exits @maisonmargiela I am reminiscing on this project— John insisted Vivaldi be played in our fittings and we all cried when Z tried on the dress for the first time. John wrote a story around the dress about a duchess who had fallen asleep on the metro and awoke a century later. We all remarked on the movement and shape and shiny tulle resembling Baldini brush strokes. After fitting the Margiela (inspired in part by a SS97 look from John’s time at Dior) with John and the atelier and @stephenjonesmillinery (who hand carried the headpiece from his studio in London to fit with us in New York) I dragged this dress from John’s SS96 collection at Givenchy shown on the runway on Veronica Webb sourced with @lilyetcie through a midtown hotel hallway and down a freight elevator wrapped in the duvet from my bed. A hotel employee said it looked as though we were carrying a dead body! We put it on with some @bvlgari jewels and this @philliptreacy for McQueen headpiece made for Lee’s revolutionary SS07 ‘Sarabande’ collection from Phillip’s personal archive.
