šItās #BHA24 szn! Can you believe the British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, is 40 years young? Despite being an established awards, over the years we have always aimed to innovate - see the recent introductions of Trend Image of the Year and International Collection of the Year categories, and not forgetting the #BHABursary which returns for the second time this year. Turn to our news pages to find out who the lucky recipient is this year. Suffice to say, theyāre excited about winning funding for a collection next year.
šAt last, itās starting to feel Christmassy, and Iām so ready to embrace party season and hit the egg nog. But thereās no getting away from the fact that the latter half of the year has been hard. Whatever your political leanings, the Autumn Budget brought with it some big changes to how businesses operate ā particularly those in our industry who employ staff and apprentices. I know a lot of people feel disheartened. Check out what you need to know about the Budget on page 27 and hear the industryās thoughts and feelings. Ben Shipman
@thehairmovementsalon has also written an impassioned HJ Voicenotes on page 20 on how heās personally responding to the changes.
šThe second half of this year also brought the terribly sad news that Trevor Sorbie had died at the age of 75. There have been some beautiful words spoken in tribute to Trevorās life and legacy, from his cultural impact to his personal connection and mentorship. See our tribute on pages 14 and 15, alongside the styles that Trevor pioneered such as The Wedge and The Scrunch. We have lost a true visionary.
šāāļøSpeaking of I-canāt-stop-looking-at-it hair, we explore the trend for all things āOld Moneyā in our Colour Special this month. Itās luxurious, itās expensive and if itās not on your ser vice menu or website then you need to act fast. Clients are searching in their millions on Google, not to mention TikTok!
š·Hope your Christmas is filled with mulled goodies, sweet treats ā and the most precious gift of all, time OFF with the people that you love.
