Return, Larry Clark
Stanley Barker, 2024
Book curation by Anthony Vaccarello
Larry Clark’s raw and intimate photographs revealed the hidden, transgressive lives of suburban American teenagers, capturing their descent into crime and drug use. These images formed the foundation of Tulsa, a seminal work in contemporary photography. Now, 50 years later, Clark revisits his archive to produce Return, an outsized monograph showcasing his work from 1962–1973. This powerful collection remains as provocative as ever, reflecting a world of addiction and change through the lens of someone embedded within it. “I photographed my friends over a decade in a secret world only I could access,” Clark explains. “Why can’t you show everything?”
