Kitchen designed and built by me for @mirandajuly. Took four months. Never built cabinetry before. Covered everything in this butter yellow-colored mixture of epoxy resin and pigment that took a lot of trials to perfect. Scavenged all the appliances secondhand. Took inspiration from this kitchen by @atelier_van_lieshout.

Thank you MJ for trusting me and living around me working for months, and being engaged in the process of experimentation. Thank you to friends who lent a hand or a truck. Thank you to the sawstop tablesaw I found for $100 at a garage sale the week before beginning the project. And thank you most of all to @mayabuffettdavis, without whom none of it would have been possible.

Stereo-Viewer, 2023

I made a wooden replica of this stereoscopic 3-D slide viewer I found at an estate sale. The original viewer was made by George Mann in the 1950s, featuring a drum of his nudie pinup photographs.

Mann was a vaudeville dancer-turned-photographer and inventor. He rented out his 3-D viewing devices to waiting rooms around Los Angeles in the 1950s. He built his inventions at the Lear Jet Factory in Santa Monica (slide 7), right down the street from where I grew up and built my device.

While researching the device online I found the blog of 3-D fanatic Susan Pinsky. Her site was the sole source of information about the viewer. She and her husband David Starkman have dedicated their lives to archiving stereoscopic photography and viewing devices.

I photographed them and their collection of 3-D viewers with my Stereorealist 35mm 3-D camera for the slides inside my viewer.

On view @in.concert.sf til aug 5. 2-D pictures don’t do the 3-D slides justice.

Leslie, 2023

A tribute to my dad. A Leslie organ amplifier made out of his old dresser. My crude replica of the one he used.

During gallery hours it plays a tape of his vocal reel from when he recorded advertising jingles to make money as a musician.

Nico B. Young - Flashlights
Opening Saturday, June 17th from 6-8 pm

The first solo show for Los Angeles based artist Nico B. Young features sculpture as container, with stereoscopic, illuminated, and sonic components that create connection between material and care.

Everything can be understood as a type of container: the body, time, recollection, a room, each gives because giving is finite. Where do all the memories go?

The opening will also coincide with a new show by our friends at Cushion Works. @cushion_works_and_friends
