Farewell and adieu to the legendary Steve Albini, who engineered so many records that I love... was a member of several great bands (e.g., Shellac, Big Black, etc.)... won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 5 card stud TWICE... and was, from all accounts, a stand-up dude who personified integrity. I only briefly chatted with the man once, in the early/mid-'00's, I want to say. Shellac was playing at the Bell House, a cool Brooklyn venue, and the Yankees were playing Steve's beloved White Sox in the MLB playoffs on TV. I sat on a couch to watch the game, and some guy next to me cracked a joke about Roger Clemens. I glanced over, and it was Steve Albini! We shot the shit about baseball for five minutes, and, when the inning ended, we shook hands, Steve departed, and, an hour later, Shellac blew the fucking roof off. I'm grateful for our brief interaction, but now, like many, I'm processing Steve Albini's sudden, unexpected absence. I will miss his wit and wisdom the most. My condolences to Steve's wife, Heather, his bandmates, Todd and Bob, the staff at Electrical Audio, and everyone who is grieving this loss. ❤️
