This painting is deeply personal to me: “If They Could, The Trees Would Lift You” (140x120 cm, acrylic on canvas). It was inspired by the poem Pine Forest by Gabriela Mistral, one of the writers who influenced the storylines in my recent work. I drew on poems and scenes in books that explore complex human relationships. In particular, I sought out queer female writers whose ability to express emotion in words seemed beyond my own, hoping to translate that emotional depth visually.

There’s a lot that can be interpreted from this work, and I generally avoid over-analyzing the meaning for the viewer. But for this piece, I felt I wanted to share a little more.

The central figure is being lifted from her grave, not by the trees, as she once dreamed, for like her, they are immobile—rooted to the earth, unable to move. Instead, it is the hands of two figures, driven by a desperate need to protect her, that pull her from the dream. But even as they lift her, a quiet fear lingers—fear of being seen, of having to choose and act in a world she had decided to forget.

Only You Can Decide | 110x95cm | acrylic on canvas

- inspired by the novel by @juliakarmfield . I was inspired by the complex fantastical relationships, « I want to explain her in a way that would make you love her, but the problem with this is that loving is something we all do alone and through different sets of eyes. »

2. Le Coquillage, Tamara Lempicka, 1941
3. Woman Bathing (La Toilette), Mary Cassatt, 1890-1891

Hold On | 125x110cm | acrylic on canvas

Some little close ups for the ones that won’t have the chance to see them in the flesh.

Whirlwind, time wrap, mind blur, human stubbornness. I’ve been thinking a lot about closure, whether real closure can ever come to be. I think art should never have full closure, they are a moment in time for the artist and viewers to reflect on. Made in the past, seen in the present, dissected in the future. A thought I wanted to share. and if this makes sense to some of you then I’m not so terrible with words after all.

Last night was the best! Thank you to everyone that came to the opening last night, it went by in a flash. I was so happy to finally share paintings I’ve never felt more proud of. Thank you for having me @fredericksandfreiser 🙏🏼

‘As Touch Fades Into Shadows’ will be open from today through to the 12th of October.

‘Fade Into You’ | 124x126cm | acrylic on canvas - this painting just like many others in show have been inspired by the character in poems and novels by writers like @schulmanny, @juliakarmfield and @patrizia.cavalli .

‘Peace is on the vanguard of contemporary painters thinking through the ways that our society fosters a desperation for unity with others but at the same time, a real desire for individual separation. Her figures confront this tension, simultaneously attracting and repelling one another. The technical skill of her compositions underlies this push-and-pull. Parts of the composition remains blurry, but key details come into crystal focus. Faces and hands often emerge into this spotlight. The overall effect is one of viewing these subjects under the prying gaze of a magnifying glass. The ripples of this magnifying glass sometimes interrupt the scene, resulting in bodies stuttering across the canvas in multiple iterations that contribute to a sense that time itself is becoming warped.’ - a snippet of the text for the show / @fredericksandfreiser

Studio shot of me in my studio just before my paintings were ready to leave for my solo opening tomorrow with @fredericksandfreiser and their booth at @thearmoryshow. I’m excited to be reunited with them and see all the amazing work on show at the moment in NYC! P. S. The snapshots are of Patrizia Cavalli’s poems. She is one of the many queer writers that inspired many of the paintings in the show.

Very excited to be heading over to New York for the first time, and to finally share all the new work I’ve been making with the world. Thank you @fredericksandfreiser for having me! Opening will be on the 5th September, 6-8pm!

The Passing Of Time, 105x95cm, acrylic on canvas

This new body of work has been helping me develop a gestural language to explore how our bodies hold the imprint of our experiences - shaping not only who we are but also how we perceive different kinds of relationships. The characters in these paintings inhabit worlds without definite answers, inviting us to both be comforted and challenged as we reconsider our perspectives on them and on ourselves.
