SALOMÉ 1974-1984 HdK - MoMA “Let them play,” Salomé calls out into the room, running his long, delicate fingers through the air. “Children want to play and try new things and be mean and annoy their parents, and that’s a good thing. That’s the only way society develops.” That’s what he and his friends did in the mid-1970s in the house at Oranienstrasse 58 on Moritzplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. They were young and they did what they believed in: with broad brushes, expressionistic verve and tough topics, they catapulted themselves into the public eye. Rainer Fetting, Helmut Middendorf, Bernd Zimmer and Salomé quickly became famous: the New Wild Ones.
