Preparing a birthday party.

Days gone by.

My father Robert J Musacchia passed away today. He departed in a clean bed in the early morning with his family visiting him frequently in his last days. He lived a happy and turbulent life. He was an avid stickball and baseball player in his youth. A world war 2 veteran. A sailor, an adventurer, a pirate in a past life. He was a restauranteur of 42 year on City Island in the Bronx. Employing, helping, and befriending many. His life was marked by both love and tragedy. He was a curious person and always had an interest in science, literature, and philosophy. Pragmatic and caring, he was one of the greatest men I’ll ever know. I like to think I knew most of his stories but the small moments he shared and the people he touched, some of whom I never met, will always ripple out into the horizon. Death and adversity came for him many times in his life, and each time he beat it back with sheer will, and maybe some johnny walker black. He was my father, my mentor, my friend. For better or for worse he did it his way and a life rarely gets lived as fully and genuinely as he lived it. I love you. Rest now.
