Created in 1969, this marionette adaptation brings together traditional favorites, including Clara and Fred, the Nutcracker, the Rat King, and the Sugerplum Fairy, alongside Bob Baker’s playful and delightful creations and additions. Just as the Plaza Hotel is getting ready for the holidays, Eloise got a full sparkling restoration this year. 💫 The puppet was fully restored and repainted based on our archival photography, from her eyes to her legs! Our team of puppet builders and fabricators, Rick Orner, Karina De La Cruz, and Paula Higgins, worked to ensure that Eloise continues to delight for many more decades to come. How did they do it? To make Eloise more durable, they re-sculpted her arms from clay and made a silicone mold, rather than her original foam molds which were disintegrating. Her new limbs are a resin cast filled with ridged foam with wood to create the structure for joinery. Her clothes also saw a rejuvenation as Paula cleaned and restored her costume, re-fabricating some parts that were beyond repair.
