Yaz 2019
Finding inspiration from my own past work lately. Recalling lighting I’ve never repeated, a camera I should never have sold and the power in simplicity. After an intense week last week I found myself with a migraine for the first time in ages and it dawned on me it’s probably the hours of looking at an EVF! Mirrorless has its benefits but it’s never matched the colour of the old 5D MkIV, I never fully realised until I looked at old work. So much so I’m actually now looking at a new one!

New printer arrived today! First muse series test print and so impressed so far. The detail & quality is so good! So satisfying seeing your work reach that final stage. Why didn’t I do this sooner?!

Choosing to shoot certain personal work as print exclusive means trying to hold back from posting any of it. I think we’re so wired to post things these days it feels a bit strange not to. We shot these back in July but wanted to put a few teasers out there.
Spending a lot of time researching and working out how I want to run the print/book sales but still hoping to have something out there before the year ends 🤞🏻

I posted earlier in the year about testing and doing something more collaborative that had more purpose than just banging out content or a portfolio refresh. This is a preview of the past 6 months of collaborations with Taina. Long term collaborations are hard to keep going, not everyone can commit to something like this, life/work gets in the way but with Taina we’ve made it work and hope we will continue to do so.
While our series is a larger long term thing which will culminate in a series of books as well as fine art prints there will be smaller one offs with others. These are yet to come but I wanted to put out a small preview of where I’m at with this. There is so much work to do on getting this up and running fully but so pleased with what we’ve achieved so far.
It’s so much more than just one series. I’ve shot prior to this with other models before this idea became a reality, before I knew what it was I wanted to do with it. Now it’s clearer and those shoots will become part of the muse series in the future. For now, here is the Taina preview!

Stunning Tiarra earlier this year 📷
Two posts in two days 😮 Honestly got so lazy on here and too busy to think about it but I have so much unseen work! The thing is I don’t feel the desire to feed the social monster with everything these days. To my mind it should serve as a taster, an introduction and window to my website & not the be all and end all. I want my work seen bigger than a pissy little phone screen can offer. I think we’ve lost track of how we should view art and photography these days. A photograph is a physical thing that needs to be printed really before it’s really complete. That’s something I’m striving to do now, even just for myself so my work doesn’t sit on a hard drive. It’s one reason I’ve started a print exclusive series of work but I’ve come to realise I need to take it beyond just that series and start printing in general. Anyway that’s my thoughts for today ☺️

Lovely Ella in the studio recently for her dance graduate shoot. So nice to see dancers coming in for natural shoots rather than the typical photoshopped glam style you so often see.

Bit of a long one for insta but hey!
I was asked this week what my favourite ever shoot was and that’s a really tough one that I just could not answer but over the weekend I began looking back. Honestly there are so many from way back to some of the the most recent but breaking it down into what shoot really epitomises me and my style of photography, what I aspire to shoot, the kind of models I want to give my free time to. It’s as much about the experience with who I shot with as it is the final result. More importantly taking the time to give this some thought has given me a real reminder of what I love to shoot and how I love to shoot. It’s given me a bit of a reset. It’s not this one shot but this shoot itself that I chose because it’s so very me and the memory of it is so special to me (it’s a shoot I’ve held back for the most part as I want to publish it at some point!) Give me overcast sky on a warmish day a couple of amazing models and I’m happy. Styling or no styling, it’s the look and the experience.
We are bombarded with images on a daily basis and it’s easy to get influenced by others even if you’re happy with your own choices. I shoot model updates that are still very much in my style whilst also working for a model’s book, that’s work, I’m paid to deliver that balance of book worthy and yet natural & real but when it comes to personal work it’s a slightly different ball game, I have artistic licence and can shoot in a way that I might not for a portfolio update. The models I work with who appreciate that know that’s what they are getting and are happy with it.
Black and white photography by Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts and the like was what ignited my passion for photography, if I could I might never shoot colour again but in the real world it’s not possible, with personal work I can do that. This is why I’m resurrecting the Timeless idea & why I very rarely shoot random tests, I want an end product, I want something more meaningful with the right people.

Models that truly love what they do make for such a beautiful shooting experience and it really shows in the images. Tiarra was such a pleasure to shoot! Thank you for your energy & passion 🥰 Look forward to another one!
