Brynley Odu Davies Profile Information

@brynley.odu.davies on Instagram have full name is Brynley Odu Davies. Here you can discover all stories, photos, videos posted by brynley.odu.davies on Instagram. Read More...

The last time I interviewed @brynley.odu.davies , was back in September of 2023. It was an in depth piece where we talked about how he got introduced to photography, his life, and him documenting the UK art scene, which has resulted in an unmatched archive of photographs starring the who’s who of UK artists and creatives. It’s a fire interview, which you can read here! Since then we’ve stayed in touch, so I know he’s been a busy lad. He published a book, traveled, curated shows etc... so we decided to sit down once more, and talk about what he’s been up to lately.

“It has been really fun, but like anyone who does something I sometimes worry it could have been better. Overall though, I do feel very relieved and happy. For so long, I just had thousands of photos sitting on hard drives. It felt like all this precious cargo was just hidden away. Now that the images are out in the world, in a book I’m really proud of, it feels like a release. They aren’t going to disappear anytime soon and I have finally been relieved of my intense fear of losing or breaking my hard drives and memory cards. I used to ban people from putting drinks on my desk, or even getting too close to it. I felt like everything I had achieved was so vulnerable. Now I can probably let people get a bit closer to my work computer. Looking back, one of the best things was the chance to collaborate with such talented and wonderful people.”

“Turns out, it’s not that easy to get a book published - there were a lot of steps involves. First, I spent two and half years shooting every day. Following this, I was fortunate enough to present a solo show of my artist portraits at @studio_west_gallery in West London. The team at the gallery, in particular @bellabonner really helped me archive and organise my images. Together, over many hours, we looked through to identify the best ones for the show and catalogue everything. It was a huge amount of work and I was very grateful to have had the STUDIO WEST team’s support in making this happen - both the show and the organisation!”

‘Born from unexpected circumstances, the project emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic when Brynley’s music photography career came to a halt. Taking daily walks in South London, he befriended local artists and started capturing their portraits in his studio. This spontaneous endeavour grew into a remarkable project as Brynley’s Instagram posts gained attention, leading to an extensive body of work.

Brynley’s project exemplifies the power of community, creativity, and the shared vision of shaping the future of the UK’s art landscape. Through diverse representation and a heartfelt approach, it stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of artistic expression. The book will serve as a definitive reference point for artists, collectors and enthusiasts. This publication is set to be released in December 2023, with an exhibition of artworks by featured artists at Guts Gallery.’

@trolleybooks insta takeover day 4 🛒 focuses on our recent book ARTISTS by @brynley.odu.davies and features some of the West Country artists in it, including Brynley himself who is originally from Bath now in London. Having been a music photographer and losing work during lockdown, Brynley began photographing artists in their studios and quickly amassed nearly 200 portraits of artists from all over the UK from 2020-2023. Brynley’s extraordinary archive bridges both the photography and painting worlds, and provides a nationwide glimpse into the diverse creatives shaping the emerging art scene. Going beyond established hubs and travelling all over the country, he aimed to create an inclusive record of the individuals contributing to the vibrant UK art world. The resulting images reflect both the talent and the warm, inviting nature of the artists, drawing viewers into their creative spaces.

🔥The series was launched as a solo exhibition @studio_west_gallery in May 2023 and the ARTISTS book published by Trolley was launched with a two part exhibition curated by Brynley @guts_gallery in December 2023. 🔥

As @bop_bristol and @martinparrfdn are Bristol based this post presents some of the artists from the West Country region, including Brynley himself:

Daisy Parris @daisyparris based in Somerset
Callum Eaton @callumeats from Bath
Arthur Timothy @arthurbtimothy based in Bath
Molley May @molley.may based in Bristol
Joe Warrior Walker @joe_warrior_walker based in Bristol
