“You Want it Darker” Oil on linen 65x85cm Something quite different from what you’re used to see on my page and I have to say, it was really satisfying and liberating to let go and use black for the first time. Painted over a piece called “The Same Deep Water As You” I went over with a clear idea in mind, the top is depicting the canopy of the Chelsea Hotel and in between each layer of paint I have left a small gap which shows the previous painting which you can see best around the “5” on these pictures. Titled after a Leonard Cohen song, you may say that it was my desire of wanting to paint something darker, using this ivory black, also representing in some ways, the obscure history of the hotel and it’s guests whilst leaving a bit of space to show the brighter brighter colours underneath… This is a first for me as I normally don’t put so much thoughts into my creation and I hope that you’ll enjoy this painting as much as I do. It is currently being exhibited at @frevdbarlondon along another 13 paintings until the end of the year so head over there to see it closer and enjoy a cocktail from one of London’s most authentic bar. It’s been a long time coming!
