The two works shown above were created to answer a design brief - Create a 5 minute timer which cannot contain any electronics. The first timer ( black plate ) was created solely using hand tools, and can have two possible times. 4 minutes in one orientation and 2 in the other. The second timer ( silver plate ) was assessed against the design brief and preformed well in its functionality and minimalism. It’s time 4.50 minutes which was discovered to be more accurate than mechanical egg timers offered by companies such as Kmart. Both timers ‘time’ is represented by the gradual decent of the spring down the aluminium plate on the front. Inspiration for these works was drawn from the Charles and Ray Eames Leg Splint and Lounge Chair with Ottoman
