Looking for jewelry inspiration? ✨

This necklace demonstrates the masterful “painted enamel” technique modernist jeweler Earl Pardon developed in his studio. As part of the first generation of the American Studio Craft movement, Pardon’s work blends influences of both craft and industry from the mid to late 20th century. Trained under the GI Bill after the Second World War, Pardon learned the arts of metalsmithing and enameling. Combining these skills with his background as an artist and sculptor, Pardon created inventive and meticulous works of “portable art” that utilize vivid color, unique forms, and masterful metalworking.

Skyline views anyone? 🌃

Using bold and spare geometric forms in “City Night,” Georgia O’Keeffe captures the sensation of walking the streets of New York and encountering the rising skyline. Save for the soft and low moon, the composition centers the upward angularity of the immense, abstracted buildings. O’Keeffe presented the work at her solo exhibition at Stieglitz’s Intimate Gallery in 1927, a turning point in her career.

✨ Meet the Giants—Henry Taylor avidly documents an array of people in his portraiture, including those he encounters in daily life and historical figures. In swiftly and intensely produced paintings of predominantly Black figures, he renders nuanced portrayals with respect to their complex individual and shared histories. Bold, flat planes of color surround this painting’s subject, who is depicted with slight detail—just enough to create an impression of the cultural and political forces that have impacted his life.
