So where’s the model? Oh, she went up to the top of the glacier with the guide like we asked. Right. Did anyone give them the radios so we can direct them? Oh. Right. We best get waving our arms lots then. #callingtheshots tip: radios are sometimes useful. Make sure they are charged, everyone is on the same channel and correctly briefed with stupid Walkie talkie phrases. #didyougetthatover #whatover

#callingtheshots #photoshoots for #outdoorbrands are all about the glamour. It’s never absolutely freezing, and there is never any waiting around.

#callingtheshots so if you’re #artdirecting an #outdoorbrand shoot and you need to ask some models to walk along a cliff top or somewhere a bit ‘spicy’, it’s probably polite to go and have a see if you’d be happy loitering around there. So that’s what I’m doing here in #chamonix a few years ago. Of course if it’s properly ‘interesting’ then you need to take the advice of your guide, and in those situations the ‘models’ may usually be climbers or people with a head for heights, so will be more comfortable than the scaredy-cat #artdirector I’ve only ever had one model simply refuse to go and stand where they were needed, but that’s another story. On a serious point, which is too dull for a Sunday, there are liability issues involved with putting people in any situations which are risky, so think on and don’t be daft. A set up marketing shot isn’t worth it.

All these light mornings remind me of working in Iceland a couple of years ago. The constant daylight monkeys with your body clock for a couple of days until you get used to it. This is the sort of sunset. Anyway, lots of light means lots of time to shoot. Enjoy the light today everyone.
