This is the last week to see my solo exhibition, Colour and Feel, at Patel Brown Gallery. Grateful for the love & engagement so far and to close things off nicely, we’ll be hosting a closing reception + artist tour this Saturday, November 23 at 2pm. The process of making these prints mean so much to me & I’m so grateful for the time spent with @lainegroeneweg @smokestack.studio learning more about printmaking, music, and life! This Wednesday, November 13 at 4:00 PM, I’ll be hosting my first ever public lecture at @uoftdaniels Main Hall. In this lecture, I will expand on my filmmaking practice while exploring world-building as a conceptual and architectural process, highlighting how storytelling and visual creation can construct new frameworks of reality. By presenting Eternity, an alternate plane of existence that I’ve been developing which blends elements of reality and imagination, I’ll introduce world-building as both a creative method and an act of resilience—a way to reimagine what “normal” should be for marginalized groups. We’re just about halfway through my solo exhibition, Colour and Feel, on view at @patelbrowngallery until Nov. 23 Excerpts from the exhibition text by @nopeconnor “Isabel Okoro, who studied neuroscience at the University of Toronto, began photographing the Colour & Feel series back in 2020, as a scientific inquiry into the theoretical relationship between colour and physiology […] Okoro’s ongoing project takes cues from other black women photographers who have similarly experimented with colour, from the thirty-one coloured clay papers and eleven inkjet prints that comprise Carrie Mae Weems’s Untitled (Colored People Grid) (2009-10), to Lorna Simpson’s “Darkening” suite of blue paintings from 2019, to Sandra Brewster’s large scale photo gel transfer “Owning Yellow” (2023). Colour and Feel is now on view at Patel Brown Gallery until Nov. 23 💐 Colour and Feel examines the interplay between colour and emotion by presenting photographs and paintings through a monochromatic lens to explore how each hue may alter our emotional perception of the image. This series also considers the reciprocal influence of our own emotional state on the meanings we ascribe to these colours. The work invites a simple question: does colour influence how we interpret emotion, or does our emotion influence how we see colour? in celebration & support of my latest exhibition, Colour and Feel, i worked with my dearest friend @ade.jpg to design a set of limited edition posters. posters are 11x17” and come in a limited edition of 50, each one hand numbered -> there’s currently 35 posters left! proceeds from the posters will be used to cover some of my costs from self-funding the exhibition, and also the 2025 return of @localglobal.world’s creator fund. pickup available in toronto + ships to the USA & Europe. we’ll also have some available in lagos this december 🫶🏽 link in bio!
