Happy number 36 today to my number 1. This month also marks our 5th year since we got paperwork involved in our relationship 💍 and I can honestly say I have thoroughly enjoyed being legally bound to you. You are the warmest and most thoughtful person I’ve ever met, dating you is like dating the human embodiment of the word “home”. I am continuously so inspired by the dedication and passion you bring to your work as well as the loyalty and love you spread throughout your family and friends. You are such a special person Eli, I love you so damn much. @elinonymous

This series I am working on is a set of self portraits that I am creating by feeding my own self portraits made in the past, into the AI bot MidJourney where it combines them and then I recreate the resulting image(s) with my own hand. I try to keep my final paintings at roughly 80% accurate to the AI image—I don’t want to get stuck trying to see how perfectly I can reinterpret the images. I make my own tweaks on colors, materials, and I subtract or change elements where I see fit as long as it doesn’t change the overall tone of the painting and the final product is still obviously recognizable as the image(s) MidJourney gave me. The works that I am choosing to use to prompt MidJourney are all 2D images that were made with the intention of expressing my “state” either physical or emotional, at that point in time. These images, created in various mediums, range from representational to abstract and come from different times in my life. My role in the new resulting portraits, is that of initial inspiration, editor, curator and renderer. I choose to draw/paint the end product rather than leave it in its digital state because I want to regain control of the final composition and for the mark making to come from my own hand rather than the machine’s. To me, working this way feels more like a collaborative project rather than just a simple input/output. I enjoy this process because I like the idea of these works filtering back and forth through organic (me) and inorganic (MidJourney) information gathering systems. The beginning images are generated in my mind, drawing consciously and subconsciously from all the media and influences I’ve consumed, and then pass through a bigger, collective mind, and then back through me for the final pass.
