How can I compose for an orchestra today without trying to be a "new music" composer? How can I complement the evening?
In this work, composing is called "sampling". I am interested in the meeting, the encounter of different sound bodies, the clash of electronics and unamplified orchestra, a back to back with the orchestra, moving speakers and a DIY sound system. I collage with existing music and transform old into new, which thus has its own history. I draw material from Fausto Romitelli's "Flowing down too slow" and Christophe Bertrand's "Mana". From both works I dissect components in a controlled way, a sound, a chord, a noise. I fragment partial moments, splinters or AI-formed. I filter quotations, rhythmic figures and structural snippets parametrically, sentence structures are cut up, instrumental colours transposed, listener reactions recomposed. Gaps are created, colourfuindefinable fragments of sound, and individually cut fragments can be perceived as abbreviations of an assigned music or as excerpts. Record players and dub sirens serve as links between the sound bodies. In the broadest sense, everything is a remix. All the collected or assembled 68 set pieces go into an archive and are rearranged like records for the piece. For the transitions I compose new electronic sounds and colours.
My experiment is working with sounds that condense into a composition. In the strictest and most real sense, my experimentation is the ordinary way of composing.
