A spec commercial I directed for @hinge earlier this year 🥰 I am so grateful for the cast and crew on this one. I cannot believe everyone travelled to my old and rusty grandmas house in the middle of nowhere, slept there with a bunch of kit and still worked so hard for this. For the past 5 years I’ve been working on my long-form debut in documentary. It is a project that is very close to me and has now finally been shot (currently in post-production). Set on a psychiatric hospital in Lisbon, the documentary gives voice to patients and workers that inhabit this space. Throughout this time, I got to meet and befriend some of the most genuine people I’ve ever crossed paths with. I started alone at 18 with a Canon 700D. I shot and edited a proof of concept and then pitched it to @sopro_filmes who opened their arms to the film. @joana______________ferreira quickly became my producer and friend. It went from one Joana to two Joanas against the world. To get funding was a challenge considering I’m an “emerging director” but the most difficult part was definitely getting questioned on my morals and intentions with this film. Nevertheless, I am a firm believer that silence on this topic perpetuates stigma and isolation which may then obstruct people from seeking help. I am so deeply proud of everyone around me that has opened up about their own struggles and so grateful that I got to finally shoot this film!
