Donnamaria: Badass | Elegance ✨ -> swipe for an exploration and celebration of individuality and authentic expression -> Well, firstly, this woman, human, artist, photographer, singer, activist, community pillar, multifaceted, multi-medium maestro, and damn-near, always the most interesting person in the room, is truly one of my favorite humans for reasons that could fill volumes. Anyone in her presence, even if only for mere moments, will know precisely the magic, energy, and essence I am speaking to and about. Also, that smile and laugh! I’ve known Donnamaria for many moons, and our journeys have continuously overlapped, interwoven, and even paralleled in many ways. Throughout that time, she has been an omnipresent source and force of love, passion, belief, support, kindness, encouragement, and indomitable strength. Singular, indeed, in all respects and aspects. We created these portraits in Harlem, NYC, at the incredible @uptownshots during my workshop, Artistic Alchemy, sponsored by @nanliteusa - during a powerful weekend with a small group of truly remarkable artists and creators, all of whom I am immensely grateful for and consider dear friends. What I love most about these portraits isn’t anything technical: it’s not the lighting or styling, posing or set design, color harmonies or compelling, cohesive narrative; it’s the energy I feel and the memories of the experience itself, being wholly enveloped by and present in powerful moments… I am honored to share these portraits with you and hope you can viscerally feel the connection, emotion, expressiveness, and energy as well. As artists, I believe we aspire to the intangible when we’re at our best, as conduits for ultimately unspeakable elements. ✨ Art for the sake of Art ✨ -> swipe for a surreal, exploratory narrative -> I’m delighted to share this playfully creative collection of portraits I created unexpectedly in collaboration with an incredible group of individuals. 🫂 Katie, a brilliant colleague and dear friend, rented my studio for some creative play, and it’s always an absolute joy to support her visions and concepts with lighting, set design, and the like. Because she’s fantastic, she graciously invited me to pick up my camera and create, too, which was perfect timing as I’ve wanted to play more with my new @dispolens disposable camera lens. It’s a 28mm equivalent focal length at a fixed aperture of F11: it produces a nostalgic, analog vibe. These were all made with a @dispolens lens, slow shutter speeds, and camera motion. I’ve been feeling extremely inspired by the mesmerizing, dreamy frames of @roversi and @elizavetaporodina and felt compelled to get a bit dreamy myself! I processed these in Capture One using film emulation styles from RNI. I wanted to maintain the raw vibe, so I did not retouch or add additional editing. While I created several frames with my other lenses, I felt especially drawn to and compelled by this set. It is a manifestation of spontaneous creativity, representing me being wholly present and feeling playful and carefree behind the camera. Of course, the whole team was badass, and the real magic emanated from our collective passion and energy. It’s essential for us as photographic artists to explore, experiment, and create work that makes us happy—anything and anyone else be damned. Never stop creating! Art is life; life is art. Alissa | Aspects ✨ -> swipe for an immersive editorial exploring identity, individuality, and authenticity -> Wow. I don’t even know where to begin… I mean, look at this collection of portraits! I suppose I’ll start from the heart with an abundance of gratitude. Alissa traveled across the country with her partner in crime, @salcincotta - and her fab HMUA Brandi, to be photographed by me at my studio in Denver. It’s wonderfully surreal and humbling when individuals fly in from across the US and the world to work with me… It’s literally a dream come true on so many levels. I pride myself on being a photographer’s photographer, so I was honored and overjoyed when Alissa commissioned me to create an artsy editorial with and for her: celebrating her! We spent an incredible, magical, inspired day and evening together, connecting as artists, colleagues, friends, and humans. We explored identity, aesthetics, and individuality through the lens of emotion, experience, light, shadow, set, scene, and wardrobe. While I love this collection with all of my being, what I treasure most are the moments shared and memories made. The portraits are a manifestation of the experience and a visual archive of the elusive, ephemeral, and altogether extraordinary. I want to wholeheartedly pursue this type of project more in the coming year: the opportunity to celebrate and uplift radiant, multifaceted, uniquely beautiful individuals through artistic exploration and creative expression. Delayna | Creative Delirium ✨ -> swipe for an expressive, dreamlike editorial + BTS -> Apparently, what they say is true: teamwork makes the dream work... Okay, that was terribly cliche, and I’ve no idea who “they” are, but I do know it was an absolute joy creating photographic magic with this collective of incredible individuals. I wasn’t planning on picking up my camera for this project. My dear friend and immensely talented colleague Katie was renting the studio for an inspired idea that was equal parts vintage, glam, whimsical, fashion, Hollywood, and fine art—or at least that was my manic interpretation. I presumed I’d take care of lighting and set design and dabble in some art direction as usual; however, Katie graciously invited me to photograph the concept as well, and as everything was coming together, I felt wonderfully inspired to pick up my camera and create a unique collection of my own. The energy was exceptional, and everyone in the studio was on the same creative page; we were all feeling excited and imaginative. For my part, I wanted to produce an enigmatic set and cast the lovely Delayna theatrically as a multifaceted heroine in slightly surreal scenes. To that end, I focused on atypical lighting, framing, and focal lengths, 16/135, that were several deviations away from standard in both directions. In post, I took things a step further by processing and ultimately color-grading each portrait, with an aesthetic emphasis on analog and cinematic vibes. The set feels very dynamic and compelling, almost like a storyboard. However, what’s most impactful is the experience itself: a collaborative effort between artsy friends who gleefully assembled at the behest of a photographer who has a knack for bringing people together as genuine community. I’m confident this will be the best yet as an artist, mentor, and individual. I am striving to age like a fine wine over here. Lol. 😎 Art, community, and photography have saved my life and kept me afloat throughout my tumultuous, chaotic journey toward healing, hope, love, passion, purpose, and self-acceptance. This past year has been intensely brutal and bewilderingly beautiful; I’ve never been so close to the edge and immersed in darkness, and I’ve never been so close to myself and experienced so much genuine peace. I am, we are, duality manifest in blood, bone, and flesh, ephemeral yet infinite. It’s all so damn surreal, simultaneously spectacular and mystifying, awe-inspiring and maddening, horrifying and magical… The horrors persist but so do I! ☠️🤭 Your individual and collective love, warmth, support, encouragement, and kindness bring me so much joy, ease, and inspiration every day, especially today, the day of my birth! These portraits are both an exploration and celebration of self. They are a heartfelt poem by and to me that I am honored to share with all of you. David | Regality - Artistry ✨ Beyond the Portrait | Workshop 📸 -> swipe for a captivating exploration of creative expression + BTS -> I am delighted to share this powerfully emotive collection that @_heyimdavid and I created the day before he left Denver for the next chapter in his journey and story in NYC. I am so proud of and inspired by you, friend! We spent the afternoon chatting about art, life, family, philosophy, dreams, fears, etc. There was a lot of laughter, a few tears, and quite a few beautiful memories made... We didn’t have much of a plan. Still, we knew we wanted to create before he left, so we started simple and allowed spontaneity and creativity to take the wheel. The way things unfolded was pure magic! Ultimately, we were both awestruck by what we produced, and it was a powerful sendoff for this incredible human being. David, I appreciate you beyond words. Claude - The body is|as ART ✨ -> swipe for an exploration of form, shape, physique, and visceral expression -> I am delighted to share this sculpturally oriented collection, which is an emotive homage to classicism! Creating this exploratory set with the incredible Claude Cordova was such a joy! We had a wonderful time laughing, crying, and connecting profoundly. The experience was both empowering and cathartic. Claude’s physique is obviously spectacular, and I wanted to display the implied strength, power, and masculinity in a less typical and more artistic and expressive manner. The male physique is often photographed rigidly and archetypal, excluding the individual’s multifaceted nature: we sought to move beyond that mechanistic presentation. VILTROX x JONNY X MASON 📸 -> swipe for an exploratory, dynamic collection of portraits + BS -> I am so excited to share this phenomenal set with the amazing Mason! @viltrox.official — @viltrox.us commissioned me to create an outdoor, editorial-leaning collection with their stellar 16MM 1.8 for Sony FE, so we spent a very hot day running around downtown Denver creating magic! Mason was marvelous to work with on every level, especially considering the crazy number of looks we shot and the smoldering heat. Rachel, as usual, was a production powerhouse who simultaneously assisted with gear, adjusted lighting, filmed BTS, and kept spirits high. In terms of vision, I felt inspired to explore and seek out cohesive color harmonies and cinematic-feeling frames and develop a narrative centered around the great multiplicity of individuality, all through the context of fashion-inspired, environmental portraitureraiture. We had a ton of fun, laughed a lot, and all wound up slightly sun-baked and dehydrated, but the effort was absolutely worthwhile, as this collection is truly something special. On another note, I have officially opened the waitlist for my online education platform, community, and app, Jonny Edward | Creative Academy. This endeavor has been a labor of love, and I am so excited to finally launch the platform and share what I’ve been working on for all of you! The plan is to go live within the next few weeks, without question, by the end of September. Members will learn my approach to lighting, set design, posing, color theory and grading, editing|retouching, framing, narrative development, and more from a foundation of creative exploration, artistic evolution, and authentic connection. VILTROX x JONNY x POLINA -> swipe for expressive, editorial magic + BTS -> I am thrilled to share this phenomenal set of portraits I created with a few fantastic humans. @viltrox.official - @viltrox.us commissioned me to create an artsy collection with their stellar 75mm 1.2 (E-mount), so I did! I never work with focal lengths longer than 85mm, and most of my work is created between 24 mm and 50 mm. This shoot was a curious experience, as the full-frame equivalent for the 75mm (ASP-C) is roughly 110mm. Thankfully my studio is so damn big! Admittedly, I felt like I was yelling at Paulina, and the physical distance was hard to get accustomed to. However, the final images speak for themselves. They’re 🔥 🤭 As always, teamwork makes the dream work, and this was a group effort... I cannot say enough good things about Polina, our exceptional model who radiated both poise and elegance throughout; Rachel, the production Queen who assisted and supported on all fronts while capturing wonderful BTS; Mimi and his team for producing this spectacular collection of custom, layered backdrops, and @benedict_j_wen for trusting me to bring this vision and project to life. While this isn’t a focal length I will use often, the rendering and compression are lovely and very high-end commercial. For the nerds out there, like me, this lens is sharp as a 🔪 and the IQ is superb. I am so grateful for my life, my art, my community, and all of the phenomenal opportunities that are unfolding in my world. I’ve worked so hard to get here, and it feels lovely to feel worthy of all this magic, alchemy, beauty, and goodness. VILTROX x JONNY ✨ I am delighted to share this incredible collection of portraits I created in collaboration with an astonishing array of artists: pure magic! @viltrox.official - @viltrox.us commissioned me to create content portfolios highlighting three of their lenses: the 16mm (FE), 75mm 1.2 (E), and the 27mm (E), which I used for this set! I’m so grateful for the opportunity! Honestly, this project was a fun challenge, as I don’t shoot outdoors much these days and used the Sony A6700 instead of my A7RIV since the 27 is an ASP-C lens. So, I got to push myself outside the studio with unfamiliar gear. Our team was spectacular, the location was majestic, and we had a ton of fun producing this enchanting editorial! I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Alexandra, our model extraordinaire who radiantly and gracefully embodied the heroine archetype while dealing with hordes of mosquitoes, inclement weather, and hiking through all sorts of terrain; Rachel, our production maven who assisted and supported on all fronts while capturing wonderful BTS; Illona for creating beautiful backdrops to match our location, Tara for lending us a collection of couture artistry, and Valerie for the magnificent merlot gown. While the portraits speak for themselves, I was highly impressed by the 27’s image quality and rendering.
