Today Lux Prima is back out on Vinyl. And I have a lump in my throat. My first time working with Brian Danger Mouse started out kinda like a blind date and ended up like soul destiny. We went into the studio to futz around and to see what happens, Lux Prima happened. Working with Brian felt like working with one of the classic all time greats like a Visconti, Quincy or dare I say Spector. He has both an astounding mastery and childlike wonder in the studio which is kinda the holy grail of pairings. There’s so much to say about what this record means to me and yet I’d prefer to keep myself out of it and leave the space for its listeners to make it theirs. I just hope it continues to take you places, like it has me. It’s the most deeply spiritual music I’ve yet to make, and all our efforts around it: the art installation, the performance on Colbert, these cherished collaborations set me free, far out beyond the reaches of where I ever thought I’d go. Music IS all it’s cracked up to be, in case you needed to hear that again…make shit that matters to you.
