Portrait of @lettereleven 🤍 — Kae is a model living with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy who is challenging societal norms, pushing boundaries and advocating for inclusivity. This portrait session between Kae and I really highlighted for me the importance of consulting with disabled individuals in the creative process and the necessity of clear communication. It’s disheartening to witness the inaccessible nature of the commercial and fashion industries, where brands often overlook the needs of disabled talent and prioritize performative gestures over genuine inclusivity. Learning about Kae’s struggles, from navigating studio spaces without elevators to facing discrimination for not fitting a certain stereotype of disability, highlights the urgent need for change in these industries. I’m excited to explore these topics more with Kae and start holding the industry accountable!!
