What exactly is house hacking? At its core it’s a relatively simple concept: buy a multi-family home, rent out one side and live in the other for cheap living or buy a single family and rent out rooms to offset your mortgage costs. This allows you to accelerate your own savings to be able to purchase another property to move into and repeat the process. You then rent out the first home now that you’ve moved out and your tenants pay for the home every single month. This strategy can be repeated over and over to quickly gain rental properties faster then saving for a non-owner occupied (investment only) purchase.
