Adam, I’ve been wrestling with the reality that you’re gone. Actually gone. It doesn’t seem possible that the vibrant soul I’ve known for over fifteen years, my friend, collaborator, and constant supporter and cheerleader…it doesn’t seem possible that I’ll never see you again. Your spirit and talent and friendship have been such a blessing in my life. The last text you sent me was doing what you always did, lifting me up and encouraging me to keep chasing my crazy dreams, like you have for so many. I wish we’d been closer in your last months on Earth. I wish I’d known the depth of the challenges you were enduring. You were too gracious to belabor your own struggles when I last saw you, focusing instead on celebrating the moment. I understand that instinct, but it kills me to think that had I only known, I could have had an opportunity to give you some levity or support or empathy, and that I didn’t take it. I don’t have that opportunity anymore, so I will do my best to honor you today, the day of the dead. If you didn’t know Adam, or if you did, listen to some of his music.
