For Red Bull Culture Clash 2024, we teamed up @sap.magazine with NYC musician @chanel_beads to produce a flexi disc “dubplate” that is releasing for free this Thursday at T.J Byrnes. The first 50 copies will come with tickets for Red Bull culture clash on June 1st.

Last slide is the band playing the exclusive dubplate track at their album release show at TV Eye back in May.

Link in SAP Magazine’s bio to RSVP!

Thinking about the origins of sound system culture, the Dubplate was an integral part of sound clashes as it served as a way to play exclusive music. Special and one-off versions would be cut to 10 inch records for competing , utilizing vocals specially recorded to namecheck the sound system. These test recordings would become known as “dubplate specials” often remarking on the prowess of the sound system playing it, in a bid to win the clash.

For this year’s Red Bull Culture Clash event, we paired Red Bull up with the graffiti crew @pressurepaintnyc, driving their box truck around the city, letting people walking by paint the truck using custom spray cans and stencils for the event. People got to keep the cans and stencils after painting the truck. It was fun.

A few spreads from a conversation between @leak.xx and I about his inline skate crew/brand @abibas8 and their first feature length video, B*R*A*I*N*G*O*D, for the new issue of @sap.magazine, releasing this Saturday 🧠

Last year @m27underground suggested I watch the rollerblading documentary “It’s All Good” which captured inline skating at the peak of its commercial success in the 90s. After watching the documentary I fell down the rollerblade rabbit hole. It became my new found obsession. I grew up skateboarding and playing hockey, so this was the perfect marriage.

I bought a pair of inline skates and quickly acquainted with @kelllllllen, a mutual friend at the time. We started skating together everyday and eventually, Kellen introduced me to @1nsta_julian, a core Abibas team member.

One afternoon, Julian invited me to skate, which ended up being a filming session for B*R*A*I*N*G*O*D. I was intimidated at first by the Abibas crew and their effortlessness… they were all so cool, a litteral breeze.

I left the session later that day feeling inspired by the preview of what was to come. The following week, I reached out to Drew with admiration for what he was creating with Abibas and asked if he would be interested in doing an interview for SAP. Hesitant at first, Drew suggested we keep a rapport over the next serveral months while he wrapped up the video and prepared for the premiere.

The interview is a collection of refined conversations Drew and I had between June-December 2023.

If you haven’t watched B*R*A*I*N*G*O*D, I encourage you to do so. Culturally speaking, it was, without a doubt, one of the most interesting things I saw in 2023. The full video is up on abibasactivewear.com

You can pick up a copy of SAP issue 005 at @earshot.nyc this weekend to read the full interview.

Interviewed @camellaehlke, artist & creator of the pioneering streetwear brand @triple5soul, alongside @maxburkeman for the new issue of @sap.magazine

We spoke to Camella about downtown NY in the 90’s, working with highly influential artist throughout the years including the late Virgil Abloh, preparing for the brand’s relaunch and got to dig through Camella’s extensive archive of the brand.

We also flipped a classic Triple 5 Soul sticker in a new color way which is included with each issue. You can come pick up a copy this Saturday from 4-8pm at 127 Eldridge St.
