On these professional liars’ strong shoulders, I was carried back in time to an age when the neighborhood movie theater was still the center of all existence as well as the only social media we needed. And thank you to the good folks at @saban_films for financing this love letter to sitting in a dark room with people you care about watching some make-pretend parables that all end happily ever after. I’ve just heard the news of the passing of the great James Earl Jones, and the world is a bit less bright. Without him there is no Darth Vader, no “he’s as clumsy as he is stupid”, no “the circle is now complete…” and no “I am your father” in “Star Wars”. And there is also no Thulsa Doom in “Conan”, Mufasa in the “Lion King”, no Terrence Mann in “Field of Dreams”, no King Jaffe in “Coming to America” and no magic on countless screens and stages the world over. Today we lost a giant who has touched so many lives with his epic and powerful performances, ranging from Shakespeare to a galaxy, far, far away, but he will continue on as a true legend.
