July 23-30, 2023
The Ark and The Archive: Exploring the Legacy of the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra at
@2220arts
Through a curated selection of never publicly displayed archival materials and facsimiles – including images, videos, memorabilia, and ephemera – from the Tapscott archive at
@uclalibrary and from Arkestra members Michael Session, Kamau Daáood, Roberto Miranda, Taumbu Ector, Maia and Phil Ranelin, The Ark and the Archive explores the breadth and significance of the ensemble’s history. Through an intimate connection with the lives and experiences of those who make up the Arkestra, the exhibition does not simply focus on the performance aspect of the band but on the community at its core.
