Anyone who knows me knows I have a hard time accepting recognition, so when @jamiliooo told me he wanted to give me the Executive of the Year honor, I almost declined. I didn’t even tell my friends/colleagues about it until it was posted. I had an aversion to stepping into the light, perhaps internalized as a woman of color, or perhaps as the daughter of immigrants that humbly do the work for no accolades, that I didn’t realize before. So I wrote my acceptance speech on that, to tell anyone who struggles to accept recognition for their success or struggles with imposter syndrome - you are not alone. You deserve to be here. You earned it. Don’t let anyone dim your light. Take up space! The past 2 weeks of being honored by both @billboard & @therevelsgroup @livenation have been affirming and eye-opening in ways I never anticipated. Thank you everyone for all the love and encouragement!!! Thank you to those who insisted on showing up for me. And thank you to each person who came to speak to me afterwards. Second to only Beyoncé is actually crazy?! 😭😭😭 Thank you to the lovely @gailnmitchellofficial for the thoughtful interview & thank you @danameyerson for being in my corner (& yelling at me to start speaking up more for myself 😭🤍). I was asked about mentors in my interview and while I didn’t have any, I’m beyond thankful everyday for the support system of friends and family along the way who believed in me, sometimes even more than I believed in myself.
