✨ The Curtain Raiser ✨
Artist: Rajaram Naik
Project: Panjim Cube Project
Curated by: Thukral & Tagra as part of Multiplay @multiplay_saf@thukralandtagra@serendipityartsfestival
Dive into a world where art meets life! Inspired by the avant-garde ethos of Gutai and the legendary Tsuruko Yamazaki's Red Cube (1956), the Panjim Cube Project invites audiences to step inside the canvas of possibility.
Rajaram Naik’s work, The Curtain Raiser, reinterprets Goa’s fading cultural traditions, weaving together the past and present through art. Drawing from his childhood memories and the vibrant folk practices of Goa, Rajaram transforms everyday traditions into immersive experiences. His work is a nostalgic archive and a call to reimagine heritage in our rapidly changing world.
Through painting, sculpture, video, and collaborations with local artisans, he brings Goa’s stories to life, redefining their meaning for modern times. His exploration of traditionally painted curtains breathes new life into this disappearing craft, preserving its legacy while inviting public dialogue.
Step into this celebration of culture, identity, and transformation—where the old and new collide, sparking meaningful connections across generations.

‘Wrapping the Unwrapped’ by Rajaram Naik
Rajaram Naik is a veteran Goa Open Arts participant, first showcasing his kinetic sculptural work at the 2020 festival. While his persona and his work both exude a quiet elegance - peel back the layers to discover a delightful sense of playfulness and sensitivity. Wrapping the Unwrapped, showcased at GOAF 2024, is an ode to the green cover seen in the torrential tropical monsoon - and a hint at the fast disappearance of this natural beauty. The artist imbues the work with his typical sense of quiet humour, playing with unexpected materials and bringing movement to inanimate objects.
“Participating in the Goa Open Arts Festival was a transformative experience. It not only allowed me to showcase my work but also connected me with a vibrant community of artists and creatives. The opportunities that followed have greatly enriched my artistic journey,” he says.
Rajaram Naik’s artistic endeavours span various mediums, including photographs, video works, installations, and sculptures. He was also a resident at Spacehouse Himalayas @spacehouse.himalayas in the summer of 2024, with the support of Goa Open Arts.

✨ **Wrapping the Unwrapped** ✨
Explore the neglected facets of reality, materiality, and social politics through the art of wrapping and unwrapping. This project delves into deconstructing to reconstruct, using fabric and parasitic plant growth as symbolic materials. 🌿
Documenting technological resources, my work aims to generate histories for the future. Cloth, in this context, represents power dynamics and the erasure of reality, reflecting its varied meanings and uses across different communities. Meanwhile, the parasitic growth on plants symbolizes the overpowering and erasing of identities and existing structures.
Check out the full video and join me on this journey of unraveling complex narratives. 🎥
