G A R D E N S T Y L E . Without a brief, this is my natural arranging style, which reflects my training from Ming @veeverscarter, who in turn was trained @pulbrookandgould (as was @shaneconnollyandco ) i chose orange as the focus for this arrangement gathering a jewel palette of dahlias from the beds @hopeflowerfarm , and to complement these hues, I included foliage in shades of copper and plum and picked these from the garden planted in Evan’s remembrance by @hollychapple garden @hopeflowerfarm. #dahlias #dahlia #dahliaseason #floristry #farmtovase #locallygrown #foamfree #learnsomethingnew #flowerarranging #flowerarrangement #season #sustainableliving #grownnotflown #flowerstagram #flowerlovers #flowerworkshop #flowerstock @sustainablefloristry #sustainablefloristry #nofloralfoam @nofloralfoam

D A H L I A S . I found a modern creamware vase in The Manor House and chose it as one of my vessels to arrange in at Flowerstock. I’ve always loved white flowers, and headed out to the dahlia beds with those in mind. I started picking white forms but found myself drawn to the yellows too, and I have to admit, I’ve always had a thing for yellow—at 14, I decided I was bored of living in an all-white house and painted my bedroom sunflower yellow. Soon, my bucket was crammed with both white and yellow dahlias, the single forms being my favourites. While arranging, I let the flowers lead and found that one side of my arrangement was predominantly white and the other side largely yellow. H A R A R E . is known as ‘The city of flowering trees’, and with good reason. On my visit in September the Jacarandas were flowering in a purple haze, carpeting the streets in lilac. Not to be outdone, the Reach-for-the-sky trees also flowering with their bright yellow flowers a marvellous contrast to the Jacarandas’. #schizolobiumparahyba #jacaranda #jacarandas #jacarandamimosifolia #harare #hararezimbabwe #reachfortheskytree

N Y A N G A . A very hazy sky at Worlds view, mostly due to pasture burning which is practised to encourage new growth for grazing and to clear areas for planting new crops when the rains come. A walk down to the waterfall at Mpunguzungu through flowering Azaleas and lastly a Painted Reed Frog, Hyperolius marmoratus. #worldsview #nyanga #troutbeck #paintedreedfrog #zimbabwe🇿🇼 #zimbabwe

M S A S A S . 2023 swipe right for more. “In the Zimbabwean spring, when the sky is hazy with dust and the
smoke of bush fires, the Msasa trees burst into new leaf burnishing
the countryside in shades of copper and bronze. The new pale-pink,
rusty-orange, red, and deep-burgundy leaves make a woodland full
of Msasa trees partcularly glorious, especially when the sun shines
through the branches.
So, what makes the spring leaves on the Msasa tree red – a colour
traditionally associated with autumn – you might ask? The answer
is that the tender new leaves contain a pigment called anthocyanin,
which not only gives them their colouring, but importantly acts
as a sun screen, preventing sunburn. As the leaves mature and
harden, they no longer need the protection and change to green.” Excerpt from my book ‘The Accidental Botanist’ link in bio. #brachystegia #brachystegiaspiciformis #msasa #msasas #zimbabwe #nyanga #easternhighlands #roadtrip
