Happy birthday @patrickcervantes let’s take a look back at some of the crazy memories from this past year, the wild times and great adventures. So many new and exciting experiences, all in the past 365 days. What a ride.

(From @monachalabi) No justice. No peace. One of the 4 men who killed George Floyd has been charged with third-degree murder. It doesn't feel like a victory. A man is still dead and police officers know that most of the time, there will be no repercussions for the violence they inflict. When you see this whole image, when you don't slice it up into 10 small pieces, all that's visible is one long bar. Killing after killing that goes unpunished. That's why people are still protesting *after* the news that Derek Chauvin has been charged. It's not nearly enough. Let's go back to the start and look at the 25 times that police officers supposedly had to face consequences for their actions. History tells us that even if all four men who killed George are convicted, their sentences will be generous (unlike the way the criminal justice punishes black men). I know earnestness isn’t really on-brand for my Internet persona, but I am outrageously proud of @blkgrapefruit for this album, and unceasingly grateful to them for letting me play and sing and create with them to help make it happen. Big love (RIP Bill Paxton) as well to @prvctice for catching a tremendously wavy vibe with his suite of visuals for the project, @patrickcervantes for cutting trippy clips at 65 degrees north latitude last week, and @ambientjones for radiating an inscrutable, alluring mystique.

Run, don’t walk to see the James Comey exhibition at the Jewish Museum! There are some great immersive and interactive exhibitions, but of course the highlight is the incredible life-size James Comey portrait you see here. I never even knew he was Jewish! Happy Mother’s Day!

From laughing at British Patrick to contemplating his own mortality to patronizing CDMX’s finest Chinese restaurant, there’s nothing birthday boy @patrickcervantes can do that I won’t take a picture of (or a video, in the case of his parkour challenge in #5 of this set)

Such a big moment for me today — 100k plays! When I first started making music seventeen years ago, with nothing more than a cracked copy of FruityLoops and a dream, and $800,000 from my grandfather Charles Wentworth Beedlebrooke de Totenhoffen, the reclusive industrialist and quarter horse breeder, I knew one day I would make a song that would speak to the world, that would give voice to the silent yearners, and quietude to the noisome complacent types. New Plants started out as a celebration of some new plants that I thought would look nice in the window, but it has become the cynosure of a transformative moment in our history, a nonfissionable nucleus at the still point of the ever-widening gyre that threatens to upend what we have come to see as order and eternity, inevitable as mountains — until we remember that mountains too were only born of action and of violence, that Everest lay a lifetime latent in the Earth before it rippled up immortal and capricious as the gods.

Looks like it’s going to be a very #Gritty Christmas this year!
