𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙩
Almost exactly one year ago, we found ourselves in Italy for our very first trade show. With plenty of downtime before the show began, we visited some of Florence’s most inspiring museums. As we moved from room to room, we encountered numerous famous Renaissance paintings and sculptures. Yet, our team gravitated most toward the process work of unfinished paintings displayed throughout the museum. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙡 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨,often depicting ornamental forms of florals as well as the beginnings of facial structures.
We also found ourselves at The Accademia Gallery, marveling at the famous sculpture of David. Once again, what fascinated us most were the unfinished Captives, a series of sculptures Michelangelo left incomplete. 𝙃𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙡𝙚.
When designing our FW24 collection, we found ourselves inspired by these early stages of creating a painting or sculpture. The Underdrawing Pant is crafted in two steps. The first is a digital print that features our interpretation of these ornamental sketches (𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜). The second is a linework embroidery selectively placed over specific parts of the print to accentuate highs and lows (𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨).
The pants are then finished using a unique dye process called oil washing, which gives the garment an uneven, aged effect. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙫𝙖𝙨, a preparatory step often done before beginning the final work. It gives the pant the appearance of having been stained by numerous layers of charcoal over time.
The pant also features hidden faces throughout, echoing the idea of Michelangelo’s Captives.

Our artwork for the Curtain Crewneck, as always - all artwork is hand drawn by our team in Los Angeles.
While we often find inspiration in the world of vintage clothing, we also wanted to lean further into the fine arts when creating our pieces. The same way a fine art piece could be mixed media, we wanted to do the same for a wardrobe staple as simple as a sweatshirt. The curtain crewneck features a combination of tonal screen print overlapped with our signature line work embroidery. The characters throughout the piece are all depicted in motion, creating a pulling effect that spans the entire garment. It’s as if the characters were interacting with the sweatshirt itself rather than just being placed decoratively.
