French Polynesia and the stories around the South Pacific have always been a dream for me. Since I was a kid, the allure of exotic island life, thatched roofs, hibiscus flowers, turquoise water, big surf, and endless palms were references that I have always returned to. Recently, I was fortunate enough to have a generous amount of time off from work. And with that, I set out to visit a place that I had always aspired to go to. Through a good friend, I was introduced to a woman by the name of the
@hinateaboosie , a Tahitian local and icon of French Polynesia. What started out with a quick call over a year ago about “what islands should go to with my wife”? evolved into, maybe we take some pictures together, then eventually, let’s shoot some of my friends, and then more and more and more. Together we set out on a creative journey, and along came her crew, some of Tahiti’s most notable surfers and locals, who were as equally beautiful on the inside as out.
These are a few Polaroids I shot with a camera from the 1960s, using expired film I bought in bulk and have stored in a fridge for the past 6 years. There are hundreds of rolls of film to follow, but anyone who knows me, knows that that will be a while before surfacing. However, here’s a tiny sampling of the journey.
@hinateaboosie I am forever grateful for bringing me into your special world and introducing me to your family. You are a legend and are at the best at what you do.
Finally, and most importantly, my unbelievably supportive, patient, adventurous, and creative wife, who runs around the world at my side, letting me chase dreams and adventures. You are everything. Nothing is better than exploring the world with you.
