The publication is filled with gorgeous photography of @arleneshechet's six outdoor sculptures for Storm King, as well as the vibrant, lyrical ceramics that were the "generative seeds” of her outdoor sculptures. The book also features essays by co-curators @nora__lawrence and @ericguybooker, as well as contributions by Kate Nesin, Anne Reeve, and Sheena Wagstaff, that situate the artist’s work within a career defined by constant discovery.

🎉 We are thrilled to announce that Nora Lawrence has been appointed as Storm King’s first Executive Director!
Lawrence, Storm King’s Artistic Director & Chief Curator since 2022, will begin her new position in January. Since joining Storm King in 2011, Lawrence's contribution to the artistic program has been transformative. She has championed exhibitions that engage with timely topics like climate, landscape, and democracy; developed innovative programs that invite people from all backgrounds to experience art under an open sky; and collaborated with artists on permanent commissions and acquisitions that broaden expectations for who can make large-scale sculpture. She brings more than 20 years of arts experience to the role of Executive Director and will be responsible for developing, executing, and promoting the museum's strategic vision.
In January, Storm King’s President John P. Stern will step away from his current management position into the role of President and Senior Advisor to the Board. Stern—the grandson of Ralph E. Ogden and son of H. Peter Stern, who jointly founded Storm King—has spent nearly two decades at the institution’s helm. During that time, he has grown Storm King into an international cultural destination. Stern has expanded the collection, increased fundraising, bolstered public programming, and overseen an exponential rise in attendance.

Deck the halls!🎄This Flying Canopy sculpture was created last month by Storm King visitors who participated in the piece by weaving colored ribbon into the suspended canopy net that was elevated higher and higher over time.
The one-day project was the culminating piece in a season of children & families programs hosted in collaboration with @johncloudkaiser@benpedersonpics and Freestyle Family art collective.

Rashid Johnson, Stacked Heads, 2020.
The imposing busts of Rashid Johnson’s "Stacked Heads," balanced one atop the other, are constructed out of bronze coated in a glossy black patina. The sculpture’s surface is textured with incised marks, reminiscent of Johnson’s distinctive, sometimes violent manipulation of softer and more malleable materials such as shea butter, black soap, and wax.

Have you ever noticed this sign along the northeast edge of Storm King's grounds? Follow the path to Patricia Johanson's "Nostoc II" (1975), which gradually reveals its form as the visitor follows a roughly circular path of about 148 boulders and large rocks set on the ground.
"Nostoc II" was the first commissioned artwork to be created entirely onsite with materials exclusively from Storm King’s grounds. Rejecting the single focus of traditional sculpture, Johanson created space to be walked through and discovered; an overall scheme emerges only through physical interaction with the sculpture. The artist thus brings people to nature through art and to art through nature.
What are you waiting for? The final Children & Families program of the season is this Sunday! Join an educator from @hhnaturecenter for a nature walk to learn how Storm King's flora and fauna adapt for the upcoming change of seasons.
