Eclipse shadows

Some recent carpet works, Remnant Recomposition 6 and Foundation 2, made side by side at a similar scale to work off differences between the unplanned disarray of first series and the intentionally composed newer works. RR is a collection of accidental pieces made using leftover remnants, originally conceived as a study for a speculative proposal for an Las Vegas-themed casino in 2012. Building on the unconscious folly ruins and synchronicities that emerged, Foundation is composed with more intention to expand on these accidents of layered foundations and natural overgrowths. Last day to see Chewing Fat @kristinakitegallery curated by Nancy Lupo @_nancy_lupa_ Open until 5pm! Honored to have works included in this adventurous exhibition with a group of amazing artists. The two carpet works include Remnant Recomposition 4 (2019) from a series started in 2012, which are made up of carpet remnants and composed by a set of rules, and Foundation (2021) which was made for the show and oriented by a different process and logic. Exactly one year ago the demolition at LACMA was paused to remove seven sections of its support structure, on display tomorrow in Pasadena.

A glimpse into a new body of work addressing institutional authority and sculptural agency of display structures using fragments of the recently demolished museum, more info @commonwealthandcouncil and on view at @artbasel Miami OVR. This is the result of a long simmering project Object Prosthetics which was born out of research and technical support from the @LACMA Art and Technology Lab and will be consolidated in a larger way in that forum and a public space TBA. Last few slides are process photos of a related work using features extracted from LACMA’s architecture. Too many collaborators, facilitators, instigators and influences to list, but more soon at a better time & place.
