I am overjoyed to welcome back The High Preistess from the 2003 Arcadia! event - I can't say enough about Gigi DeLuxe, she's an amazing artist, a brilliant light and has been a muse to so many artists and luminaries. She inspires me every time I see her gorgeous face and it is so because she's a true star inside and out. See one of her works in person in New York, a rare treat now she resides in NOLA, where else? At Talon Bar on Thu, Sept 12, 5-8. Gigi DeLuxe is a multimedia artist and performer. She has her art in museums, galleries and private collections all over the country. It's truly a work of skill, love, frustration, and all the emotions in between ... definately a "not to be missed" work. Born and raised in New York City, Maria Alekseev (OpticVoid) is a practicing fine artist and professional arts educator. She draws her inspiration from a collection of interests ranging from historical and cultural traditions, high fashion, NYC street style and attitude, biological forms and hybridization to hypnagogic hallucinations, horror, and all things offensively beautiful. Her mediums are painting, drawing, intaglio printmaking and most recently has begun creating short art films with her newly formed artist collective The Dark Circus X.

Gigi is a NYC-based lapsed art historian, former apprentice to a master printmaker, published author, and emeritus board member of a non-profit dedicated to the rights of sexual minorities. For several years, she was an in-house tarot reader at a downtown hangout for single-named celebrities. Der Gehängte was created for the ASStrology Around the Aether ArtMakers NYC art exhibition, and Gigi is honored to be included. (That last bit, her words in her bio and it totally made my heart sing a bit).

Twelve Days of ArtMaker artists! Day 8. - Showcasing Noah Xifr, a familiar face out and about the Scene as well as a talented artist. Noah has lent the show a work from a series of conversation pieces (and they are!) ... and where can you see it? Born in Madrid, Spain and growing up in the Bronx, this 3rd generation artist started drawing as a child inspired by the city, birds he raised, surreal painters, science fiction, graffiti and comic books. In 5th grade he won a NY Transit Museum poster design contest and went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Cooper Union School of Art, with a major in Painting and Printmaking. His creative journey has brought him to found the Symbolic Realism arts movement, a home for contemporary surreal conceptual artists. Twelve Days of ArtMaker artists! Day 6. - The original ArtMaker group coalesced as a forum on The Motherboards, and having a Mother alumni in the show is important to the history of the group ... Teague Clements really needs no introduction. He has been taking photos of this scene for decades... and while he gave me 3 images to promote him with, I snuck in a 4th (my legs from Mother in the 90s). Come check out the piece he crafted for the zodiac/BDSM themed ArtMaker installation and happy hour opening event at Talon Bar on Thu, Sept 12, 5-8. Born and raised in Queens, New York, Teague Clements is an experimental multidisciplinary Art Maker who enjoys documenting and exploring with film - 35mm, 110mm, 120mm, instant film, using lo-fi, vintage and ‘toy’ cameras - and utilizing techniques as emulsion lifts, multiple exposures and film souping to create what he refers to as “Mondo eye-candy,” which he describes as “yummy images for the eyes.” His subject matter touches on Night Life, Kink/NYC subculture, portraits, and street photography. He has participated in just a handful of New York City group Art shows over the years as a result of the appreciation of his experimental black & white and Night Life photographs. His Subculture photos have been seen in such noted magazines as Skin Two and Extreme Fetish. Her Shibari Capricorn piece is soooo charming, I may actually be in love. Gonzalez-Blitz is a traditional and comic artist & musician Born in Hell's Kitchen in the 70s, she considers the energy of the real city as much a part of her creative inspiration as her other perceptions of reality may be. She has participated in art shows at now ghostly places like Art on A, Max Fish, CBs 313 Gallery and ABC No Rio, and has had comics and illustrations published in the Eisner- winning Drawing Power, Feral House, Tales From La Vida, and as a recurring contributor to World War 3 Illustrated. Most recently she has painted murals on the CHARAS building downtown and been involved with the effort to restore it as a center for the people.

Day 3. - Tonya Knudsen, yeah, it’s me today. :) I recreated a work for the upcoming Asstrology show in oil from a concept I developed 20 years ago for another historic Artmaker show, Arcadia! at CBGBs ... I just felt strongly the Libra for this show needed to be blindfolded. That and I’ve been thinking about redoing this concept in oil for about a decade and I am so pleased with how it came out!!
