Departing from its established womenswear identity, 431-88 (
@431_88) by Shweta Kapur (
@shwetakapur) introduces Mens 24, a collection crafted with long-time friend and stylist Akshay Tyagi (
@thetyagiakshay).
“We’ve built a strong foundation in womenswear, but I sensed a gap in menswear. While some pieces in my collection can be worn by women and vice versa, it’s important for our brand to have a dedicated line that speaks directly to men,” Kapur explains.
Rooted in introspection and individuality, Mens 24 embraces a muted, nature-inspired palette—sage greens, lilacs, and jade blacks—that breaks away from standard menswear colors. Crafted with crepe, linen, and silk, each piece evokes calm sophistication. “Garments that offer comfort and familiarity—pieces people can truly live in without seeking validation,” she adds.
The close friendship between Kapur and Tyagi shaped a mindful design process. “It felt almost like a therapy session, where we could openly share our insecurities and thoughts...turning work into time spent with a friend,” says Kapur. This ease translated into a collection deeply personal in tone.
Tyagi’s styling brings a nuanced approach to menswear, capturing men’s need for both style and comfort without excess. “Each piece had to feel distinct enough to reflect the 431-88 vibe yet adaptable, letting the wearer make it their own,” he explains.
Although Mens 24 is presented as a men’s line, it’s not confined to that label; many women are drawn to its style. “Men, like women, have a wide range of tastes, from traditional to experimental. This collection is for those who don’t want to be boxed in,” Tyagi concludes. “It’s just clothing adapting to the wearer—not the other way around.”
